35 Jahre Mauerfall: Ayfer, living next to the Berlin wall

Ayfer is 14 years old when she moves with her family right next to the Berlin Wall. From the third floor of the family apartment, she could watch the events unfold day in, day out. One story in particular has remained in her memory.

35 Jahre Mauerfall: Birgit, prospective travel agent

Birgit was in her early twenties when the Wall fell on November 9th. As a budding travel agent, she had a very special experience of that evening and the time after the fall of the Wall. Amazement, joy, uncertainty and an uplifting feeling of freedom.

35 Jahre Mauerfall: Manuel, he was fast asleep

Manuel was just 12 years old and sleeping soundly when the Wall fell in Berlin. The first trip two days after the fall of the Wall was to the Lüneburg Heath to visit his aunt and grandparents.

35 Jahre Mauerfall: Meike, Bitter orange marmalade

Meike is lying in bed with a fever when the legendary press conference with Günther Schabowski takes place on November 9, 1989. A week later, she travels to West Berlin and buys herself something very special with her welcome money.

Thilo lived about 200 meters from the Wall as the crow flies in the northernmost part of Berlin Reinickendorf. The border was a daily part of his life.
