Summer in Berlin is great. The streets are full of people, the banks of the Spree are lively and the candles flicker on the balconies late into the night. Even the movies are moved outside. The open-air cinemas are open from May and into September. There are well-known and somewhat hidden open-air cinemas, all of which offer a varied program. Berlinale classics, cult films, or the latest Hollywood movies can be watched in the open air, in a deckchair, and with popcorn. 1. Open-air cinema Friedrichshain

With 2,000 seats, the Freiluftkino Friedrichshain is one of the largest summer cinemas. Benches with backrests offer enough comfort even for longer films and you can even eat at the tables with chairs during the movie. You will find a spot on the lawn if you prefer to lie down. Of course, the cinema is also barrier-free.

2. Summer cinema Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz

With the lively Potsdamer Platz behind you, you have a particularly beautiful backdrop for a wonderful open-air cinema experience in the middle of Berlin. The Kulturforum summer cinema is located right next to the Philharmonie. Here, arthouse fans can experience the productions of the past year in up to 1,000 deckchairs. Those who want to watch films in the original version (with German subtitles) will also find what they are looking for here.

3. Open-air cinema at Strandbad Wendenschloss

In the beautiful district of Köpenick, the open-air cinema at Strandbad Wendenschloss shows well-known international films, blockbusters, and excellent indie films from recent years. Several times a month from May through to the fall, you can enjoy the cinema experience at Langer See with friends, family, or as a special date.

4. Campus cinema at the Stasi Headquarters

A truly historic place to watch exciting films in the open air: the inner courtyard of the former Stasi headquarters in Lichtenberg. Documentaries are usually shown on Tuesdays, while feature films are on the program on Thursdays and Saturdays. Before the movie starts, you can take part in a guided tour of the grounds or the exhibition.

5. Open-air theater at Weißensee

Cinema for young and old. Not far from Lake Weissensee, you can look forward to wonderful movie nights on deckchairs or wooden benches. There are two venues. In the courtyard behind the characteristic tent roof of the main stage and on the lakeside path, there is space for 200 deckchairs waiting for their visitors. From Thursday to Sunday, there is a varied film program. On special occasions, there is space for 2,000 visitors on the listed stage. Blankets can be borrowed from the open-air cinema if it gets a little chilly. The stage remains closed if it rains continuously. On Sundays, there is a children's program in the afternoon with children's film classics as well as current films and puppet shows.
