The Austrian Ecolabel and our EasyCityPass Vienna partners

Independent seal of approval for the environment and quality

We are living in challenging times as far as the climate is concerned. So it's all the better that more and more companies are asking themselves what they can do specifically to protect the environment. Sustainability is also becoming an increasingly important issue for tourists when traveling. It's a good thing that the EasyCityPass Vienna includes a ticket for local public transport. This means that journeys between museums are automatically sustainable. Austria has the Austrian Ecolabel. But what exactly is it, how do you get it, and which EasyCityPass Vienna partners are already certified?

  1. What is the Austrian Ecolabel?
  2. What does the Austrian Ecolabel mean for tourism in Vienna?
  3. Which EasyCityPass Vienna partners carry the Austrian Ecolabel?

1. What is the Austrian Ecolabel?

The Austrian Ecolabel is available to all consumers who want to make their environmentally friendly purchasing decisions on a sound information basis. “It is a state-awarded eco-label for ecological business that draws the public's attention to the ecologically harmful production, use, and disposal of consumer goods and, in return, identifies environmentally friendly products and services. The label is awarded in the categories of products, tourism, green meetings, and education. Around 4,400 products and 400 tourism businesses, over 140 kindergartens, schools, and extracurricular educational institutions now bear the state award.

Apart from the Austrian Ecolabel, there are other environmental labels in Europe that various institutions, associations, independent inspection commissions or the state award.”

2. What does the Austrian Ecolabel mean for tourism in Vienna?

More and more companies in green Vienna are working sustainably. At the same time, the environmental awareness of Vienna's visitors and residents for their own ecological and social actions is also increasing. The following criteria apply for tourism companies to be certified:

  • A publicly accessible sustainability concept,
  • an educational program that also deals with the topic of sustainability,
  • use of 100% green electricity and renewable heating energy wherever possible,
  • a waste separation concept to make recycling as easy as possible,
  • use of energy-saving light sources and water-saving sanitary facilities,
  • accessibility in the museum and diversity management,
  • focus on regional and organic food in museum catering,
  • use of sustainable paper and avoidance of packaging in the museum store,
  • and much more.

3. Which EasyCityPass Vienna partners bear the Austrian Ecolabel?

Since 2018, the Austrian Ecolabel has also certified museums that commit to an extensive catalog of criteria. Some Viennese exhibition venues are setting a good example and are resolutely committed to their environmental compatibility. In this way, they make a decisive contribution to more sustainable tourism and can proudly call themselves a “Green Museum”.

We are delighted that some of our EasyCityPass Vienna partners have also been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. Sustainable museums in Vienna are characterized by resource-conserving and environmentally friendly work and offer green cultural enjoyment.
