Berlin summers are typically pleasantly warm, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. On particularly hot days, the thermometer can sometimes climb above 35 degrees. Exceptions prove the rule ;-) But don't worry: the city offers plenty of shady parks, cool lakes, and breezy rooftop terraces where you can take a deep breath.

Berlin is also a real summer paradise for families! Here are a few tips for relaxing and eventful days with the little ones:

  • Tierpark Berlin
Larger than the famous zoo in western Berlin and beautifully green—with playgrounds, picnic areas, and rare animals, it's a highlight for children. You can spend the whole day here. Bring your picnic, swimsuits, and blankets, and you can relax and spend the day with the animals from morning till night.
  • Water playgrounds & paddling poolsA real hit when the temperatures rise! Particularly popular: the paddling pool area in Volkspark Friedrichshain and the water playground in Park am Gleisdreieck. There is also a paddling area for anyone who needs to cool off a little at the large playground right on Weißensee.
  • FEZ Berlin (Wuhlheide)A leisure and education center with great hands-on activities, a theater, a swimming lake, and huge outdoor grounds—perfect for active kids. You can easily reach Wuhlheide by public transportation: take the S3 toward Erkner or Friedrichshagen and get off at the Wuhlheide S-Bahn station. From there, it's another 12–15 minutes' walk.
  • Wuhlheide Park RailwayA historic miniature railway that chugs through the forest – operated by young people. Nostalgia meets adventure! In 1993, a platform was built at the depot. What was once intended as a temporary solution is now showing its age. Major renovation work is on the horizon. The park railway is being converted into a modern, barrier-free platform with new signaling technology. Click on the link to find the current timetable for the Wuhlheide Park Railway.
  • MACHmit! Museum for ChildrenA creative interactive museum with changing exhibitions, a craft workshop, and a climbing tower—perfect for bad weather or for creative hours. All further information about the MACHmit! Museum for Children can be found on the museum's website.
