In the heart of the Vienna Prater
Welcome to the Planetarium Vienna, one of the most modern planetariums in the world, located in the heart of the famous Vienna Prater. This impressive theater of stars offers visitors of all ages the opportunity to discover the secrets of the universe. Let’s be enchanted by the beauty of the night sky.
Whether you are a passionate amateur astronomer or simply curious about the wonders of the cosmos, the Planetarium Vienna provides an adventure for everyone. Since its founding almost 90 years ago, the fascination with the artificial starry sky has remained unbroken for young and old, attracting over 100,000 visitors yearly. Best of all: with EasyCityPass Vienna, you get a €1 discount on the ticket price for standard shows*.
A Look at the Stars
The Universarium - Model IX by Carl Zeiss Jena is the world's most advanced star projector depicting the night sky with more than 9,000 stars, star clusters, galaxies, and nebulae in their true color splendor. Combined with eight Zeiss Velvet projectors, it is also possible to cover the entire dome with videos and animations. These impressive fulldome projections immerse visitors in the infinite expanses of space, bringing astronomical events to life.
Shows for All Ages
The planetarium combines entertainment and knowledge transfer in a variety of different shows. The exciting astro shows are particularly popular with young and old, taking visitors on fascinating journeys of discovery into space. Along the way, they gain insights into the latest findings in astronomy and learn exciting facts about the formation of stars, planets, galaxies, the working of black holes, and of course, how to navigate the night sky using constellations.
The children's and family shows take little star gazers from the age of 4 on great adventures into the sky. Together with Elsa, they discover different constellations, fly to the moon with Yannis' mouse family, or solve the mystery of polar nights. Additionally, visitors learn everything they need to know about the cosmos in Space4Kids and the trilogy "Mission Weltall 1-3."
In the shows for teenagers and adults, we delve deeper into the darkness of the universe, discovering deep sky objects and watching researchers conduct experiments on dark matter. A journey to the southern sky reveals hidden constellations, nebulae, star clusters, and dark clouds. For the first time, there is also a special show about black holes, the most fascinating celestial bodies of all.
Please note: Planetarium shows are presented in German.
A Visit to the Vienna Prater
Right behind the planetarium is the city's most traditional and well-known amusement park, the so-called Wurstelprater. Here you can get an adrenaline kick on one of the roller coasters, drive bumper cars, or ride the ghost train. The famous Ferris wheel offers a breathtaking view over the entire city. For those seeking relaxation, a visit to the "Green Prater," the "lungs of Vienna," is recommended. A leisurely stroll among the tall chestnut trees, expansive meadows, and branching Danube arms offers a surprising nature experience right in the city and close to the planetarium.
