art:berlin: Hohenschönhausen

Middle Ages, villas, Stasi, Bauhaus and kale!

Please note, this tour is only available in German!

Hohenschönhausen is mainly known for the former Stasi prison and prefabricated buildings. But the district has much more to offer, as the tour shows: From the medieval village church, one of the smallest in Berlin, you walk along with an old village and past industrial monuments to the Obersee. In 1932/33, Mies van der Rohe built Haus Lemke, a jewel of the Bauhaus school, in the existing villa colony of the imperial era. A monument from the same time is the Flusspferdsiedlung, which has been renovated in accordance with the requirements of listed buildings.

A district with so many undiscovered places and stories. What else can we expect here?

Meeting point: in front of the Taborkirche, Hauptstr. 42, 13055 Berlin (tram stop Alt-Hohenschönhausen)
Endpoint: at the Stasi memorial site
