The site of the new Transport Museum was still an operational station for trams until 1990 and was built in 1900. Nowadays, it is home to a modern museum for the entire family. Many historic exhibits are displayed here, above all trams and buses.
However, the museum focuses primarily on the diverse history of the exhibits and provides a glimpse behind the scenes of everyday public transport operations. At total of 14 different themed exhibits create an exciting journey through the history of public transport in Vienna: From the horse-drawn tramway of the imperial age to the opening of Vienna’s subway system in 1978.
Young and old learn all about public transport in a playful way and learn how other cities deal with mobility.
The network of the Wiener Linien encompasses the five subway lines as well as 29 tram and 145 bus lines that ply daily on a route network of over 1,000 kilometers in length.
