History of the Vienna Tramway

The Remise Museum of Wiener Linien was created in the former Erdberg depot in 2014. It shows historic and modern vehicles and offers interactive insights into public transport in Vienna.

The location was an operational station for trams until 1990 and was built in 1900. Nowadays, it is home to a modern museum for the entire family. The network of the Wiener Linien encompasses five subway lines as well as 29 tram and 145 bus lines. The daily route network covers over 1,000 kilometers in length. However, the Remise Museum focuses primarily on the diverse history of the exhibits and provides a glimpse behind the scenes of everyday public transport operations. A total of 14 different themed exhibits create an exciting journey through the history of public transport in Vienna: From the horse-drawn tramway of the imperial age to the opening of Vienna’s subway system in 1978.

Young and old learn all about public transport in a playful way and learn how other cities deal with mobility.
