Journey of human discovery
The world's first Museum of Body Worlds displays unique plastinates that provide easily understandable, detailed knowledge about individual organ functions and common diseases of the body. In addition, the BODY WORLDS Museum Berlin opens up a view of the different facets that determine our existence. At the exhibition in Berlin, visitors are encouraged to live consciously, pay more attention to their own health, recognize the human body's possibilities and limitations, and reflect on the meaning of life.
BODY WORLDS of Animals
Dr. Gunther von Hagens and Dr. Angelina Whalley attract visitors of all ages with this fascinating exhibition. In the Museum of Bodies, children and adults, school classes, teachers and students alike can embark on an expedition into the animal kingdom at home and an exotic safari. The BODY WORLDS Museum Berlin of Animals exhibition provides unique insights into our animal relatives' nervous system, bone structure, musculature, and organs more vividly than any specialist book. Visitors can experience the enormous diversity of animal bodies up close - an amazing feat of engineering by nature. Spectacular animal specimens turn animal anatomy on its head for us humans and turn the invisible inside into a visible outside - without skin, fur, or hair. Icke the lion, born at Berlin Zoo, impresses with his extraordinary muscle mass. Weighing around 200 kg, the lion can make incredible leaps of almost 12 meters with its powerful hind legs.
Your visit to the BODY WORLDS Museum Berlin
Dr. Gunther von Hagen's Body Worlds has revolutionized the museum world. All of the specimens on display in the exhibition are from people who have decided to make their bodies available for medical teaching and the education of interested laypeople after their death. The exhibition is located at the base of the television tower. If you leave Alexanderplatz station in the direction of the TV tower, you will find the museum entrance on the opposite side of the tower's base. If you are coming on foot from Museum Island, you will see the entrance directly behind the Neptune Fountain.
How is a plastinate created?
Plastination is a preservation process invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens. A plastic solution replaces all body fluids and fats that are subject to the decomposition process. The process takes several months. The resulting preparations do not decompose and can be kept indefinitely without odor.
