The pulse of the New Circus beats in the heart of Berlin at Chamäleon Theater. Over the years, Chamäleon Berlin has established itself as an exciting home for the New Circus and stands for contemporary, innovative circus theater beyond the mainstream.
New perspectives on an exciting, vibrant art form are presented here, and circus productions are shown that test boundaries, flout conventions, and create unique, touching stage experiences in the process.
The historic Jungendstil Ballroom in Hackesche Höfe makes Chamäleon one of Berlin’s most beautiful theaters. Small tables and a convivial atmosphere allow you to arrive and linger in a relaxed manner, while the charming service team serves snacks and drinks at your seat. The Chamäleon is a warm, welcoming place where hospitality is paramount.
From August to December 2022, Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) will present two impressive productions under the motto “A Company in Residence”. With this, we are continuing a format whose first edition enormously inspired us and our guests last year. Designed as a production concept, “A Company in Residence” aims to support the creative work of the artists and at the same time present our audience with outstanding, newly adapted productions. Gravity & Other Myths is a circus and movement theater company whose work explores the boundaries of contemporary circus. Through a series of accomplished ensemble works, GOM has quickly become a respected Australian company that challenges the ecology of New Circus through conceptual sophistication and acrobatic virtuosity while fostering interpersonal connection.
In the second installment of their residency, Gravity & Other Myths brings their acclaimed production Out Of Chaos back to the Chameleon stage. Edgy acrobatics that conjures images of birth and the Big Bang collide with intimate verbal confessions from the artist:s, giving their audience a real-time glimpse of what it feels like to be on stage. By sharing the inner lives of their world-class acrobats, the company allows us to glimpse the special magic found in every Gravity & Other Myths work: the warmth and connection between the performers and their audience. At the heart of the production is the question of how things come together. People, planets, and plans. Movement and standstill. The audience, performer:in, sound and light. With great sincerity, the eight acrobats, together with the musician Ekrem Eli Phoenix, create impressive images and move with apparent ease between chaotic stories of creation and our seemingly ordered here and now.
Age recommendation: 10+
Content note: The production includes brief moments in German and English spoken language. However, the language portion of the play is minimal; there is no plot to follow.
